The Elie Sports Club junior golf open tournament, known as the Elie Junior Open, is one of the highlights of the Club's calendar. 2024 was the 70th playing of the event with a record entry of players. Hundreds of juniors of every age and every ability played for a variety of trophies on a truly spectacular July day in the East Neuk of Fife.

Nine trophies were played for, both girls and boys, across U18, U16, U14 and U12 age categories. Expertly introduced by our familiar official starters, Andrew Forgan and Janet Amos, players got underway at 8.00am with competitors teeing off well into mid-afternoon. While great golf was played with trophies and prizes won and awarded at the end of the day, what is always most memorable for the parents and dozens of Club volunteers out on the courses are the views and sounds of the fairways filled with good sportsmanship, laughter and camaraderie. Congratulations to Fraser Walters from Craigielaw Golf Club in East Lothian, winner of this year's U14 Sports Club Cup, who, for the 2nd year running, recorded the lowest gross score on the day on Elie Links with a 71.

Words don't do the day justice, so enjoy a taste of the Elie Junior Open with some images of this year's play and awards.

Such a big day in our Club's calendar doesn't just happen by itself. Special thanks to the Club's manager, Julie Otto, for the significant undertaking of planning and organising the tournament; thanks also to the many club and parent volunteers, scoring, spotting and starting through the day. We can't ignore contributions made by our Club Chairman's multi-tasking dog, Jess, ball spotting, starter for the 10th tee and generally keeping the Chairman focused at all times!

The Elie Sports Club would like to thank the Golf House Club for hosting our golfers out on the beautiful 18-hole links course and for hosting the prize-giving ceremonies in their famous clubhouse. Thank you to Jeanette Johnston, captain of the Elie and Earlsferry Ladies Golf Club, for presenting the trophies and prizes to our winners. Thanks to our Head Golf Professional, Michael Bradfield and his team for the valuable support on and off the golf course.

Finally, we would like to express our appreciation to the R&A and event sponsors, Taylor and Martin, for their contributions to the event.
